Kung Fu Fighter's Program

'The Road to Black Sash'

The Fighter's Program is where countering tactics come into play. Crucial techniques are added and more of the class time is spent in a sparring format to reinforce your skills and ingrain them into your natural reflex responses. A good foundation is crucial but continuing to refine that foundation is even more important.

  • Elbow and Knee Strikes - elbows and knees are necessary tools when the range becomes too close to strike with fists.

  • Countering Footwork - in the beginner class you learned to neutralize with your footwork, now learn to counter your opponent and set yourself up in a superior position.

  • Counter-striking - you spent all this time learning defense now take the next step in the progression by learning to hit back.

  • Slipping/Dodging/Moving - valuable skills that can save you from bad positions or keep you from wasting a block and saving that arm for a strike.

  • Takedown Defense - without being sharpened an old sword is nothing but an antique. Continually sharpening the sword gives it meaning in the modern world. Many people today train in ground fighting arts such as BJJ. Learn defenses against the common takedowns that land you on the ground.

  • Kicking - Legs become effective fighting tools now that your hands are competent. Kicks can be the game changer when used properly. Learn the low kicks used in Mantis.

  • Throwing and Locking - either you took advantage of the program and got a jump start or you can take it up here and now and complete your fundamental throw/lock training before entering the Mantis Cave.
