Beginner Kung Fu Program

'Training of the Grasshopper'

The beginning of your skill building. This is where you lay the foundation which everything else is built upon. If the foundation is weak then the building will easily collapse down the road.

  • Striking - not only learning to strike properly but this is where you learn to throw effective combinations as well as maintain a defense while striking. Base level fighters or attackers throw single punches, the most amateur fighter can easily block up to two. Learning to throw 3 or more punches begins to tear down the defensive capabilities of an opponent.

  • Blocking - by completion you should notice that you can block strikes at different ranges, and your blocks are solid and committed. This does not mean you will block everything that comes at you, but your defense has begun to take shape and you can block fast and powerful strikes.

  • Footwork - one of the most crucial yet overlooked aspects of fighting. In the beginner levels you work on neutralizing attacks with your footwork. Drills in the class teach you to respond to attacks by neutralizing them so later you can learn to counter them effectively.

  • Focus - knowing where to look and how to use your vision can defeat your opponents speed and increase your reaction time. Valuable tools to have - these carry over into other parts of your life.
